atms pic

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of being a judge on the Airtel Trace Music Stars competition alongside Top Zambian singer Salma Sky and renowned radio personality and DJ, DJ LBC. The finale to crown the Zambian winner took place at popular live music venue The Web and was attended by many peopler from the entertainment industry as well as family and friends of contestants.

Bernard Shaluchiso was crowned the winner on the night, with runners up  Wezi Mhone in second place and Delight Haangala in third. Airtel Trace Music Stars Zambian edition saw a large number of entries from all parts of the country in its early phase, and after several weeks of deliberation, the judges narrowed the list down to the top 5.

Bongo Hive Meet The Industry: Radio Presenters

Tuesday, August 12th 2014, Bongohive had the privilege of hosting a panel from the DJ’s industry. Speakers: Yoko Chimanja, Leelee Ngwenya from 96.5 Rock FM, Chinyota Msimukoa from Hot fm 87.7, Luchi from Radio Phoenix and Chilu Lemba – Voiceovers Artist and Independent radio Personality.

This is the video of our panel and although I am no longer on radio, for the time being it was an invaluable and amazing experience. All of these presenters are people who I admire greatly and who inspire me, it was an honor to be among them.

Gold and Copper Night

On November 20th I had the privilege of attending the Gold and Copper Night at Room 101 right here in Lusaka. This event was held to launch Absolut’s premium vodka Elyx and G.H. Mumm Champagne’s No. 1 Night Edition. The event was by invitation only and there were a host of radio personalities, business owners and media personalities in attendance.

G.H. Mumm is notably the sponsor of Formula 1, taking center stage in celebrating victories. This partnership has been in place since 2000 and continues to flourish with G.H. Mumm at the forefront as the official F1 champagne.

G.H Mumm Champagne recently launched its latest cordon rouge with its No. 1 Night Edition, this champagne has a different look to previous editions and the purpose of this edition is celebration. The gold packaging of the bottle is indicative of the fact that this edition was created for celebrating life’s special occasions. The champagne can be describes as very crisp and has a fresh aroma with a nutty scent.

The concept of champagne drinking is one that not a lot of people appreciate; it is typically drunk out of a champagne flute however Silindile, our hostess from Pernod Ricard let us in on a secret. In France they drink it from a wine glass in order to “enjoy the crux, you have to open the wine up and a glass with a broader brim assists with that.” The only reason people use champagne flutes is to maintain the flavor and keep the bubbles as well as look stylish, it is for more or less for aesthetic purposes.

The people attending the event largely appreciated this edition of champagne, I have to say it is my new champagne and that says a lot, as I am not a champagne drinker. I can definitely see myself ordering this stunning and tasty bottle of champagne on birthdays and other special occasions.

The next order of business was to become acquainted with the newest luxury vodka on the market, Elyx. Made in Åhus, Sweden Elyx is ultra-premium single distilled vodka and the distillation process of this vodka is unique as it is processed though copper pipes to remove unwanted impurities. It is commonly referred to as “liquid silk and that is why it is so smooth to drink, because of the copper distillation. Distillation through copper pipes makes alcohol very smooth.” Silindile shared with us.

We got to see and use the Elyx dispenser firsthand; it is a copper machine with the bottle frozen in a block of ice to keep the vodka chilled. In the words of our hostess, “you are supposed to drink Elyx just like that, no mixer, no fuss!” You put a glass under the dispenser and pull the lever to release the vodka. The concept of the machine is that you can drink your Elyx throughout the night without worrying about replenishing the ice. The dispenser is available at Room 101 if you order Elyx and request it, ensuring you a fabulous night of ice-cold premium vodka.

In my humble opinion the Elyx is the best vodka I have ever tasted and although I am not a big fan of vodka I have tasted a lot of it. At long last I have found a vodka that I can sit back and enjoy straight or as a martini, just be careful not to let the smoothness fool you into thinking you aren’t two sheets to the wind and drink it responsibly!
