On Thursday I had the privilege of attending the VALA Design House Launch, located at Foxdale Court in Roma the store showcases local designers in one venue to help make Zambian fashion more accessible to people. VALA stocks “Quality local fashion merchandise, designed and created by local Zambian designers. VALA is the go-to place for local fashion.”
The store itself is very clean and sleek with its white and silver aesthetic and I think the interior design is quite unique. I absolutely love the white wooden crates used to showcase accessories, the lighting fixtures are also quite eye catching not to mention the VALA style which is also quite brilliant.
“The fashion industry in Zambia is a small but rich one and it needs to be nurtured. Vala aspires to create a platform for growth of the industry by promoting designers’ businesses and allowing them to expand their reach. I believe that selling local fashion is a start at tapping the potential of the industry which will lead to job creation through the added need for production, improve the perception of locally produced goods, and also empower creative minds to turn their passion into an entrepreneurial venture,” Creative Director Mu Mudenda says.
Designers featured include Kutowa, Kamanga Wear, Chiza Ngulube, Chitenge life, Nada and many others. The event started at 18hrs and featured a preview of the Spring/Summer 2014 collections with 10% off on all purchases. Dj Nano was there spinning some lovely music in the courtyard and there was a cocktail bar set up for shoppers.
Make sure that you pop over to VALA (shop No. GO2) at Foxdale Court, it is on the Ground Floor next door to Debonairs. Accessories start at about k40 for a ring and go upwards to k300 for necklaces made from semi-precious stones. The clothing items are priced from about k120-k500. The facebook page can be found here.
